Proof and granite…

February 21, 2008

Ok, girls, here is the proof that I have actually been knitting.  In fact it’s been a little hairy around here lately and we got a 3rd ice storm for the winter today. There was no school today WOO HOO! But it was awfully slick. I’m just uber excited that at the new house our power is underground and not hanging up to collect ice.

dsc00692.jpgThis is the Th-th-thong from Knitty. The recipent for this lovely thong is kind of weird. I gave these to my nephew for his 11th birthday this evening. I KNOW it sounds perverse, but really it is very sweet. I gave him a knitting hat and a pair of Fuzzy feet for Christmas. He then said, “I love this stuff, now aunt Rachel you have to make me a knitted coat, scarf, mittens, t-shirt, pants and then some underwear.” I laughed and told him that I didn’t know if they made regular underwear patterns for knitting. The only ones I had seen were thongs. He says, “OK make me a red one then!”. I thought he was kidding, but my SIL told me that he was very concerned and wanted to make sure that I would have them for his birthday. So I went to H*bby L*bby this week and bought some Sinfonia mercanized cotton and tried it out.  THey turned out great and he was thrilled. So thrilled that he forgot about the family birthday party, went into his room and took  off his clothes, put on the the thong and locked the door. He was sitting in there playing video games in just his thong! I know our family is weird, but he LOVES them and was so excited.

These are a pair of Fetching for the Divine Miss Em.  They were made from the new Bernat Alpaca Blend in sky. The yarn is a very cheap yarn, but worked out wonderfully and was a dream to knit.

This is an unblocked pillow cover  from an old pamphlet that I got on clearance at H*bby L*bby for $0.17! I like it. It needs to be blocked and put together, but I’m not sure when I’ll get it done.

I also got a new book that I’m loving right now. It is 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders.  I picked it up on sale at the book store. There are quite a few things that I’m hoping to make from it.

Now Nan has proclaimed that she wants some of “doze kind of muttons” (those kind of mittens), but I don’t want to do the same for her as Em, so I’ll figure something out.

**By the way, I’ll have some house pictures before too long, but until them you’ll have to make do looking at the granite countertops in the background of the pictures from my kitchen! :-)

Karmic Retribution and Dishcloths….

February 16, 2008

Ok, so tomorrow is like my sporting life Christmas, aka The DAYTONA 500.  I LOVE NASCAR! I’m a freak, and I don’t care who knows it. My favorite driver is Dale Earnhardt Jr. He switched numbers this year andI was so happy to find his new number made into a dishcloth pattern. http://woodhilldesignknits.blogspot.com/2007/11/88-dale-earnhardt-jr.html  You can go to this link and on the sidebar she has a list of all of her free dishcloth patterns and driver numbers. So if you have a NASCAR junkie at your house, or someone you know does, this is a great gift idea.

So tomorrow is the big race. I’ll be watching it in all it’s glory, hopefully NOT from my little 27 inch 15 year old TV in our family room. Tomorrow at noon we will be buying a 42 inch LCD  1080p. How are we affording this after just building out house? Well I received an awesome check in the mail from my old school district from last year in T***a. Anway, the scores were so high in science school wide that I received a $3000 check for teaching achievement! WOO HOO! I didn’t think I got one since I don’t work there anymore, but I guess not now! WOO HOO! It is karmic retribution for me because others did not get the check because I was the only one that taught science in the building.  Towards the end of my time at my last school administration and teachers there were incredibly unkind to me. It almost broke my spirit of being a teacher.  I was called horrible names that were not true, stories were told about me that would make you sick, and it just killed me to go to work everyday. I never said a word to anyone about how I felt. I just held my head high, smiled, ignored and tried to act like I wasn’t hearing what everyone was saying.  Now I get the moolah and I did a 20 minute happy dance tonight! SWEET!

YAY!!!

February 16, 2008

Some of you have made it over here! It’s easy to get here from Ravelry, since I fixed the link on my profile.  I got a really nasty email from the person irritating me about moving the blog. It was HIlairous!  To answer a few questions:

1) Yes we did get moved in. Finally got all moved in the first weekend of February. YAY!

2) Yes I am knitting. Quite a bit lately. I’m working on a pillow from a pamphlet that I got from Hobby Lobby’s clearance wall last year for 17 cents, finishing up a MD baby kimono for a gift, and starting on a pair of Fetching from Knitty for Em.

3) Are you ever going to post any more pictures? Yes, I have taken quite a few, however it requires that I have the adaptor cable to attach to my computer to upload said images. I still have not figured out where I have stashed it.

More later!
